Emerging Computing Technologies for Digital Cultural Heritage

Project Type

Digital Cultural Heritage Research

Date

2024-2025

This research, published in IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, presents a comprehensive review of 146 international studies (2020–2024) on how emerging computing technologies are transforming the preservation and inheritance of cultural heritage. The paper systematically maps the five digital cultural heritage processes (acquisition, archiving, restoration, analysis, and presentation) and evaluates the impact of AI, large language models, generative diffusion models, knowledge graphs, and multimodal systems across each stage. By integrating methods from computer vision, NLP, blockchain, and extended reality, the study outlines an interdisciplinary roadmap for the future of cultural heritage digitization. This work highlights how emerging technologies can safeguard both tangible and intangible heritage, bridging human creativity and computational intelligence for sustainable cultural preservation.
